Thomas Dillon (b. 1986, Staten Island, NY) is a self-taught Contemporary artist based in Philadelphia, PA who came to painting just five years ago following earlier creative pursuits in music and writing. Dillon has worked large-scale since his beginnings.
His painting practice is focused on mining form and figures from abstracted fields in an unconscious meditative state. He utilizes non-traditional methodologies to distance himself physically from the painting in order to eradicate his authorship while he creates. His objective is to become a purely intuitive impulse when creating, and express the work as an unfoldment of the divine rather than the work of the individual painter. The process becomes an exchange where Thomas “denies the self” as a necessary condition to access the noumenal realm and allow the art to emerge as an expression of something beyond the individual.
